I made this thread to discuss the talents of Armageddon and to share my "vision" of how to use Armageddon.
I begin at the basics of the card. Armageddon summons creatures from the graveyard of the enemy. Simple said to use it's skill put a creature in the opponents graveyard. It's skill triggers after the effects of summoned creatures. This means that if you've a disposal creature it's disposal effect (could) send a opponents creature from the hand to the graveyard and then Armageddon could reanimate it. The other way of getting there is to kill creatures through battle and reanimate it. The only downside it will take one turn. A turn in which your opponent could revive or recycle it.
So there are the basics and now I'm going further with it. When I want to take full advantage of the skill I need a disposal/instakill creature which is easily destroyed and then comes to the hand with as less as possible wait time. Why do you ask? This way the "Disposal Rotation" (DR named after this) continues so you could use it as much as possible. To use it perfectly I need a creature with diposal, rebirth and a wait time of 2 or less. Why 2 or less? When you put a rebirth rune on it you can use the card right when it's been rebirthed. Does such a card excist? Yes it does. I needed to search for it, but it's Demonic Templar. Meld disposal/instakill on Demonic Templar and use it. It's the key for the DR. It's not needed for this deck, but always usefull to have, Demonic Templar does have the skill rip. Rip prevents opponents creatures to get healed with magical skills. It's a nice tech to have.
Now I'm going to take a close look at the other aspect. Not all creatures are disposable or instakillable, so I need to be able do kill them. In order to keep the graveyard filled the creatures need to strike hard and fast. This means that sacrifice bullseye and sacrifice sweeping blow creatures are the way to go. Normally I don't go into detail about so called "Zodiac" cards, but with Kumiho and Kitsune (if they're still Zodiac creatures) are special for this deck. Before I go further with hard hitting creatures don't forget that we need to have one recycle (2) creature and two revive creatures in order to keep the recycle/revive rotation (RRR named after this) up and running. The first one is clear, Horned Beast recycle (2). I know that Octavious recycle 2 is way better and fits perfect in this deck, but I won't discuss Zodiac creatures here. The other two revive creatures should be choosen carefully. I've said something about hard hitting creatures. Kitsune ruins a lot of cards at once, so it will be your top choice. Danse Macabre kills creatures like if they're garbage. You can get Kumihos and Kitsunes through Transmutation (I've still no succes, but it's possible). Meld revive on kumiho and revive on kitsune. This way they can revive eachother withouth having the down effect of revive. So the first five cards are clear, since I want to use one Demonic Templar Instakill and one Demonic Templar Disposal for field and hand pressure.
- Demonic Templar Disposal
- Demonic Templar Instakill
- Horned Beast Recycle (2)
- Kumiho Revive
- Kitsune Revive
There are five places left for other hard hitting creatures. I believe that Killer Queen is one of them. Correctly placed it could ruin four or five creatures at once. So there's a place for it in this deck. Four slots left. After six cards I still need a solid sacrifice bullseye creature so Anathema sacrifice 8 is on the list too. Stoneskin protects it against retreat and gas cloud, bullseye and sacrifice 8 makes it a beast. One strong sacrifice sweeping blow creature is Graboid so there it comes. Also it's anti retreat, but it's ravage and sacrifice 8 makes it very strong against human creatures like Mythril Drone revive or Paragon Immunity 9. When there're two creatures next to it without Frost Armor or Dodge they'll go to graveyard with the one in front of Graboid. Since there're a lot of dodge creatures in the current meta an extra bullseye creature is always usefull. two sacrifice is a the maximum and I think that three is always too much. So the second bullseye creature should be a strong one without sacrifice. First I could only think of one card, Pit Dragon. Meld Soul Snatch 7/8 on it and it could ruin a lot of creatures. On the other hand Queen Tempress retreat is the current meta and the big weakness of Pit Dragon. When I thought about other creatures I came to Angel Prime immunity 9. It kills Queen Tempress retreat in a blink of the eye and since I don't have any place for Queen Tempress, I could steal them through reanimate. That's a two for one. At last but not least, the unforgettable Paragon. Paragon is a must in every deck in the same goes for this deck. No recycle or revive possible. That sounds great.
So the deck is complete:
- Demonic Templar Disposal
- Demonic Templar Instakill
-Horned Beast Recycle (2) Nidhogg Recycle (2)
- Kumihio Revive
- Kitsune Revive
- Killer Queen
- Anathema Sacrifice 8
- Graboid Sacrifice 8
-Angel Prime Immunity 9 Lady Bloom Immunity 9
- Paragon (Immunity 9)
First of all I want to say that I want to make this deck. This is pure theorically and I can't test it out (yet). When you don't have Kumiho revive and Kitsune revive go for cards like Fafnir and Abaddon. Both strong and Abaddon could (partial) lock-down the opponent. If you're somehow able to get Octavious take out Angel Prime and when you can get recycle 2 on it take out Horned Beast and put Angel Prime back in. When you prefer to have more control over the board you can also take out Angel Prime and put Abaddon revive in it. This way you can put frost blade 10 on Kitsune.
When I look to this deck and the basic principles about Armageddon. I believe that group tactics is not needed and deathless (because of the two sacrifice 8 creatures) and cull are better. Deathless on just three mortii's while two are already rebirth creatures could seems strange. But once deathless kicks in it triggers on every creature.very
Because there are two revivers, one recycler and two rebirth creatures it's not needed to use deathless. Cull is a very good skill and should be standard on Armageddon. For the other one you can choose between group tactics, freezing dance and firestorm. My personal favorite is freezing dance but it's very hard to get. Firestorm is the most offensive out of the three and group tactics to most defensive. Choose whatever you like the most. If you choose freezing dance or firestorm you enable the use of Anathema sneak 8/9. So that could be worth the try. Swap out the Demonic Templar disposal or Demonic Templar instakill for Anathema sneak 8/9 if you go for this.
I'm very interested in your opinion, so please share it in this topic. Please don't move the thread to Deck Discussion because this thread is based on a discussion around Armageddon and the basic principles I believe are suited for the card. So the deck I explained is not the main point of the thread. The basic principles of Armageddon are.
EDIT: 2 october 2016
- Fix: Change Armageddons deathless to group tactics, freezing dance or firestorm
- Fix: Change Angel Prime immunity 9 for Lady Bloom immunity 9
- Fix: Change Horned Beast recycle (2) for Nidhogg recycle (2)
- ADD: When you want to use freezing dance or firestorm as talents, you enable to use of Anathema Sneak 8/9 as replacement of Demonic Templar disposal/Demonic Templar instakill
